Welcome to the Thirsty Pagan Family.

Welcome to the Thirsty Pagan. We are a small microbrewery and pub located in the historic Russel Creamery building at 1623 Broadway, in Superior, WI. Our brewer, Nate McAlpine, designs 9 unique varieties of beer for you to partake of; 4 of which are house specialties and 5 are delicious seasonal batches that rotate quickly.

The Thirsty Pagan Family is happy to welcome you. Our hours are from 3-11pm Monday through Wednesday and 3-midnight (or later!) Thursday through Sunday. Our most excellent kitchen closes at 10 every day. We have the best pizza in the world, so have some. Kids are welcome!

We are a SMOKE FREE environment 365 days a year! We like it, and since we own it, that's nice.

Please come in and join us for a pint or pizza, or both! We can't wait to see you!

Brewery History

In May of 2006 Susan and Steve Knauss purchased the existing Twin Ports Brewing Co. This simple sentence gives insight to the simple approach that these two took in producing a wonderful company, Thirsty Pagan Brewing. Building on a firm foundation of pizza and beer, our two entrepreneurs quickly took a down and out location to a thriving destination. "We recognize our potential in focusing on just two things, pizza and beer. Do those two things correctly, and the world will come to us," says Steve Knauss; and obviously, they have.

In February 2011, Gustave Axelson of the New York Times hit the road for a midwestern beer tour of northern Minnesota and Wisconsin. Axelson's tour included a stop at Thirsty Pagan, but you'll have to read the New York Times article to find out the rest.

Just recently, Thirsty Pagan has celebrated their 5th year anniversary. "We continue to fine tune our well oiled machine, and look out for our next great adventure, just around the corner!" What that is, Steve would not elude to... However, with the Pagan's pizza and beer as their foothold on the restaurant community, we can only imagine what these folks may have up their sleeves.

Brewery Selections

We have expanded the selection of beer, so there are nine different varieties, something for everyone! We feature 4 different house specialties: North Coast Amber, Derailed Ale, Burntwood Black, and Gitchi Gummi Golden.

One of the seasonal brews is often found on our hand pump. This wonderful invention allows us to have an English style beverage available at all times. The beers on this tap have a bit more flavor, and are sometimes dry hopped. The hand pump is always served in 20 ounce glasses the way the English do it!

Our four other seasonal beverages rotate out rather quickly as they are very popular, so, make sure to grab a growler on your way out the door if you find something you like. Because, when you come back for that same awesome seasonal, it may already have been rotated out!

Want to take our beer home with you to share with your friends? Can do! We sell growlers (64 oz containers). We will also fill other breweries growlers if you bring them in. We aren't fussy, we just want you to enjoy quality beer. Doesn't everyone?
